About NSS

National Service Scheme popularly known as NSS, was formally launched on 24th September 1969, the birth Centenary year of Father of Nation. The scheme aimed at developing student’s personality through community service. NSS  is  a  permanent  youth  programme  under  the  Ministry  of  Youth  Affairs  and  Sports,  Government  of  India  and  funded  by  Government  of  Tamilnadu  and  Government  of  India  in  the  ratio  5:7. The activities of NSS mainly focused on Technology transfer to rural mass and help the rural youth for creating the job opportunity, through conducting different types of training programmes. These kinds of activities in turn benefit the NSS volunteers in the scopes of job opportunities, self-confidence, leadership quality etc. The theme followed by the Government of India for the NSS activities to be carried out every year is “Healthy Youth for Health India” and the motto or watchword of the NSS is “Not me but you”.  It  underlines  that  the  welfare  of  an  individual  is  ultimately  dependent  on  the  welfare  of  society  on the whole.This  express  the  essence  of  democratic  living  and  upholds  the  need  of  selfless  service  and  appreciation  of  the  other  man’s  point  of  view  and  also  consideration  for  fellow  human  beings.


OBJECTIVE

  • Personality development through community service

  • Understand themselves in relation to their community
  • Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem solving process.
  • Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility
  • Utilize their knowledge in finding practical solution to individual and community problems
  • Develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities
  • Gain skills in mobilizing community participation
  • Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude
  • Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disaster and
  • Practice national integration and social harmony

SYMBOL        
The   symbol of the National Service Scheme is  “Rath’' Wheel of the Konark Sun Temple of Orissa.  These giant wheels of the sun temple portray the cycles of creation, preservation and release and signify the movement in life across time and time and space.  The design of the symbol, a simplified form of the Sun Chariot wheel primarily depicts movement.  The wheel signifies the progressive cycle of life.  It stands for continuity as well as change and implies the continuous striving of NSS for social transformation and enlistment.

NSS Song

           During Silver Jubilee Year 1994 the NSS theme song has been composed. All NSS volunteers are expected to learn the theme song and sing the song during NSS programmes and celebrations.

NSS KEC

  • National Service Scheme (NSS) at Kongu Engineering College was formed in the academic year 1985-1986.
  • We are making the students to involve in social related activities by conducting various programmes like Cleaning activities, Blood Donation Camps, awareness rallies, thyroid camps, youth camp, guest lectures, soil and water testing camps, health related camps etc.
  • The main theme of our NSS is “Go Green”. As per the motto, we strive hard in making our campus and nearby villages’ pollution free and plastics free zones
  • Initiated the works to eradicate “seemai karuvaelam” trees from barren lands near our college areas.
  • We have taken an initiative to convert the villages nearby into “Model villages”.
  • Our network fulfils the blood requirement within an hour time. Following is the list of blood donation per year at emergency times.
  • 2011-12 – 48 units ; 2012-13 – 60 units ; 2013-14 – 80 units ; 2014-15 – 122 units; 2015-16 -  75 units;  2016-17 – 72 units
  • We have also been conducting a national level technical symposium “PRASIDHI” every year to increase the technical knowledge among the students.
  • We also conduct a 7 days special camp in adopted villages every year
  • Our Management is too generous in providing a fund of Rs.1,50,000/- for the adopted villages. This amount can be utilized for any asset creation either directly or by Self Sufficiency scheme (SSS)
  • Taken an initiative to organize an agri expo at the camp site for the welfare of villagers.
  • Conducted Nalam - A Health camp for the faculty members and students of KEC every year.In the year 2014-15 and identified around 10 % of tested population had been affected by thyroid. Hence follow-ups for identified personals are taken care of.
  • Highest number of blood units donated per day in a camp is 575 units
  • Campus cleaning programme will be conducted on third Sundays of every month. Plastic wrappers and bags will be removed from the college premises and will be sent for decomposing

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Ms. G.Vidya of Kongu Engineering College has been awarded as the Best NSS Volunteer (University Level) for the academic year 2011-2012.
  • On the occasion of THE WORLD BLOOD BANK DAY Celebration, organized by Govt. Hospital Blood Bank, Tirupur and Tamil Nadu AIDS Control Society on 3rd May 2013 at Tirupur, NSS-KEC received the award for organizing the most number of blood units in a single day.
  • For the academic year 2012-13, our NSS Unit was awarded the “Best NSS Unit Award” by Anna University, Chennai for its excellent work like youth camp, blood donation camps, camp works during the year.
  • The inauguration and Appreciation Ceremony for the 7th year of ERODE SUPREME CHARITABLE TRUST BLOOD BANK was celebrated on 6th June 2013 at Erode. Blood camp organizers and NSS-KEC was awarded for the contribution to the blood bank by organizing various blood camps.
  • On the event of NATIONAL VOLUNTARY BLOOD DONATION DAY, NSS-KEC received award for organizing the most blood donation camps in association with Government Hospital at Seetha Kalyana Mandapam, Gobichettipaalayam on 24th July 2013.
  • For the academic year 2013-14, our NSS programme officer Dr.A.Manimaran was awarded the “Best NSS Programme Officer” by Anna University, Chennai.
  • Mr.P.Prathap and Miss K.Saranya of Kongu Engineering College has been awarded as the “Best NSS Volunteers” (University Level) for the academic year 2014-2015

SPECIAL CAMP 13.02.2017 (MONDAY) – FIRST DAY SESSION I      The NSS volunteers of Kongu Engineering College planned for a special camp at Kanagapuram, Jeeva nagar and Velampalayam from 13-02-2017 to 19-02-2017.The special camp was titled as “ILAYA BHARATHAM”. Around 140 NSS Volunteers started the journey from KEC Campus by 2.00 p.m. and reached the camp site at 2.15 p.m. We were assembled in the ground; the camp was begun with a prayer song, NSS song and thought for the day by the NSS volunteers. We were divided into different committees and   started the work around 2.45 p.m. The NSS Volunteers cleaned the campus by clearing the stones and grasses in and around the school campus. CAMPUS CLEANING PROGRAMME - 1

      The National Service Scheme of Kongu Engineering College had organized the campus cleaning programme on Sunday (05.07.2015) in the college campus. Every month of first or third Sunday, the NSS Volunteers will involve in campus cleaning programme to spread plastic awareness among their friends. The cleaning programme was started by 6.30 a.m. The volunteers had cleaned various places in the college campus to remove the plastic wastes.       The Volunteers separated into two groups and started cleaning the campus. The volunteers cleaned the non biodegradable wastes like plastic materials and other unwanted waste materials in the college campus. The volunteers found easy with their works on cleaning because the wastes in the campus were reduced when compared to the previous campus cleaning. INAUGURAL FUNCTION

INAUGURAL FUNCTION (30.07.2016):             The National Service Scheme of Kongu Engineering College organized the inaugural function for the academic year 2016-2017 in Sri Ramanujan seminar hall, IT Park on 30.07.2016(Saturday).The program was started around 4.00 pm. The inaugural function was preceded by Thiru .V.K.Muthusamy, Correspondent, Prof.S.Kuppuswami, Principal, NSS Programme Officers Dr.A.Manimaran,Mr.S.Praveen Kumar and Dr.R.Devi Priya            The function was started with the prayer song by our NSS volunteer Selvi.R.Selva Rani. The NSS activities of the academic year 2015-2016 were listed out through multimedia. Then the lightening of ceremonial lamp was done by Thiru .U.L.Dhanavelmurugan, Chief Guest.
